School Closure - Year 1 Home Learning

Purple Mash

(Search for Rood End Primary School on the school login page)

Daily homework will be set on Purple Mash. This will include a mixture of English and Maths activities.

Your child should have a Purple Mash login inside their reading diaries. Once logged in, the activities can be found under the '2Dos' icon at the top of the page.

There are many other areas of Purple Mash that you may wish to explore in addition to the '2Dos,' including Science, Curriculum and Computing games and activities.

There is also a section called 'Mini Mash'  - this is ideal for children working within the EYFS framework. There is a wide selection of simple games and activities covering all areas of the curriculum.

Reading Eggs

All children have a Reading Eggs login in their reading diaries. This can be used as often as you like as the children progress through the levels at their own pace. It is an excellent way of practising phonics at home and can be accessed on phones, tablets or laptops.

Welcome to Year 1

In 1R we have Miss Boswell, Miss Bibi and Miss McKenna.

In 1E we have Miss Allis, Mrs Begum and Miss Holmes.

Home Learning

In Year 1 children will be given weekly homework to complete. This will be sent home on a Friday and will be due to be completed by the following Thursday. This may be linked to our topic, science, phonics, English or maths.

They will also have weekly spellings (given out on a Friday) to practise at home which will then be tested on the following Friday.

All children will also have two reading books to read at home alongside a reading record. Please listen to your child read as frequently as possible and comment in the record book.

The following websites will support your child's learning at home:

Autumn Term

During the first half of the Autumn term our topic is "All About Me". During our first week we had a lovely entry point day where we shared pictures of our families, painted self portraits and made face biscuits. Throughout our topic we will be looking at emotions, aspirations for the future and discussing our own interests. We will be celebrating how we are all individuals and how we can be good friends to our peers.

This half term we will be focusing on the text "Ruby's Worry". Through our text we will be exploring characters emotions and relating it to our own experiences.

We will be working on making predictions, retelling a familiar story and applying our phonics knowledge to read and write sentences.

This half term we will be focusing on place value. We will be looking at reading, writing and ordering to 20 and finding one more and one less than given numbers.

To support maths learning at home please practice counting as much as you can at home. This could be counting cars they see, writing a shopping list and reading numbers on front doors when walking to school.

Autumn Term Highlights

Spring Term

Our topics this term are The Great Fire of London and Plants. For the first half term, we will be learning all about the Great Fire of London. This will be a D.T. based topic which will include a trip to the local fire station. For the second half of the term, our 'Plants' topic will be art-based and in science we will be learning the different parts of a plant and what they need to grow.
