Key information
PE is on a Wednesday. Pupils need to bring the correct PE kit to school every Wednesday.
Homework is set every Friday. Pupils will receive 2x pages from either their Maths or English homework book. Homework should be returned the following Thursday.
Pupils should be reading 3x a week at home, for twenty minutes.
We kindly ask that parents help to make sure pupils are reading at home.

Animals including Humans
In this unit, pupils will learn about different organs and systems in the human body, as well as the impact of exercise, diet and drugs.
Light
In our 'Light' topic, pupils investigate how light travels and how the human eye enables us to see.
Religious Education
What kind of king was Jesus?
During this topic, pupils will deepen their understanding of Christianity and the Kingdom of God.
Morals (Hinduism)
Pupils will explore morality through the lens of Hinduism. They will learn about concepts such as Brahman, karma and samsara.
PSHE
Family and Relationships
In this unit, pupils will discuss the concept of respect and attitude and how these qualities can shape our relationships with others.
Healthy Lifestyle
In Autumn 2, pupils learn what it means to have a healthy lifestyle.

Art Skills
In the second half term, pupils develop their key art skills using a range of artistic medium.
Design Technology
Playgrounds (structures)
During this topic, pupils develop what they have already learnt about sturdy structures and apply their knowledge to the construction of a scale model playground.
Geography
The Alps
In Geography, pupils begin by learning about the Alps mountain range.
History
World War 2 In History, pupils learn all about World War 2: the key figures; significant dates and events; the lives of those affected; the repercussions for future living.

Evolution
In this unit, pupils will learn about famous naturalists such as Charles Darwin and his Theory of Evolution. They will also search for evidence of extinct creatures and they will explore the risks facing endangered ones.
Electricity
In our 'Electricity' topic, children develop their understanding of electrical circuits and their application in the real world. They will also improve their knowledge of electrical safety.
Religious Education
Religious Charity (Christianity and Islam)
During this topic, pupils will develop an understanding of the charitable work religious groups are involved in and how this ties to their religious and philosophical beliefs.

Pupils will explore how Christians follow the teachings of Jesus in their daily lives.

Safety and the Changing Body
In this unit, pupils will learn about relationships and the effects of puberty on their body.
Citizenship
In Autumn 2, pupils learn about human rights, discrimination, and environmental responsibility.
Art
Making My Voice Heard
Throughout this topic, pupils explore the concept of self-expression through artwork.
Photography
In the second half term, pupils are able to create a range of artwork using digital mediums such as photography and photo manipulation.

The Alps
In Geography, pupils explore how energy is produced and consumed, with a focus on comparing areas in America and Great Britain.
History
Local Study: The Census
In History, pupils will investigate a local area through an investigation into the census. They will also learn how and why the census is completed.

Living things and their habitats
In this topic, pupils deepen their understanding of classifying animals using systems such as the Linnaean system. They will also explore the characteristics of microorganisms.
Religious Education
Community Respect in Sandwell
During this sociological topic, pupils will explore the prevalent religions in their local area. They will investigate the rise and decline of religious places of worship and the factors behind these figures.
PSHE
Economic Wellbeing
In this unit, pupils will learn how to manage money and to create good habits for economic wellbeing.
Identity
As children prepare for their journey into secondary school, they will discuss the role of identity and how media can influence or alter our understanding of identity.
Design Technology
Automata Toys (Mechanical Systems)
Using a range of practical equipment such as saws, vices, dowels and jelutong, pupils will design and create their own automata toy.
Come Dine With Me (Food Technology)
In their final D.T. topic at Rood End, pupils explore the importance of hygiene, food safety, and 'Farm to Fork', before designing and preparing their own three course meal.

Independent Field Work Enquiry
In Geography, pupils will research and select their own field work enquiry to carry out in their local area.
History
The Sikh Empire
In History, pupils will investigate the rise of the Sikh Empire under the rule of leaders such as Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
Spellings
Homework and spellings
Homework will be set every Friday. Pupils will have until the following Thursday to complete set homework.
Collin's English and Maths Homework
Pupils are expected to complete two pages from either their Maths or English homework book. The page numbers that they need to complete will be told to the children.
Spellings
Spellings are tested weekly y and new spellings are set after the test.
Reading
Children must read three times a week. They should read for at least 20 minutes each time. Parents are kindly asked to support their children with this expectation at home.
Remember, the more you read the more likely you are to succeed!
Trips and Experiences
Y6 Residential
Year 6 children have the fantastic opportunity to go on a residential during the Autumn term.
Previous residentials have included a three day trip to Ilam Hall in the Derbyshire Peak District and a five day trip to Plas Gwynant in Snowdonia National Park.
These residentials are often the highlight of the school year and are strongly recommended!
Drayton Manor
At the end of the year, Y6 pupils have the opportunity to visit Drayton Manor theme park.
This is a fantastic opportunity to make some lasting memories with their friends before leaving Primary school as well as an opportunity to face their fears on thrill-seeking rides or to pique their curiosity as they wander around Drayton Manor's animal enclosure.
End of Year 6 Performance
After their SATs, pupils will take on a new challenge: performing their own production to a live audience. Pupils will audition, rehearse, and collaborate to create their end of Year 6 show, developing their confidence and oracy in the process.
What else?
Throughout the year, pupils will also have the opportunity to embrace other experiences. They will visit places of worship to complement their R.E. lessons; they will enjoy swimming lessons in the Sandwell Aquatics Centre, where national athletes competed during the Commonwealth Games in 2022; they will visit a museum in the heart of Birmingham; and they will explore their local area to support their field work enquiries in Geography.
