PE at Rood End

At Rood End, we know how important PE is for helping every child build hope and ambition. Our PE lessons are designed to be fun, inclusive, and inspiring, encouraging all children to enjoy being active, build resilience, and aim high in a supportive environment.

What We Believe About PE

We want our children to:

  • Love being active and encourage each other along the way.
  • Understand how sport and exercise help them stay healthy for life.
  • Build resilience, learn to reflect on their progress, and show good sportsmanship.
  • Develop a positive mindset, knowing that effort and determination lead to success.
  • Work well with others, showing fairness, respect, and teamwork.

These ideas match our school values of Respect, Resilience, Inclusivity, Collaboration, and Honesty, making PE a key part of growing the whole child.

What Our PE Curriculum Look Like

Our PE lessons follow the National Curriculum and EYFS framework, with a clear plan that builds skills year by year. A PE specialist teaches weekly lessons, covering a wide range of activities like gymnastics, dance, games, swimming, athletics, and team sports. We also offer extra clubs after school to keep kids active and engaged.

From Year 1 to Year 6, children start with basic movement skills like running, jumping, and ball handling, then gradually move on to more complex activities such as outdoor adventure challenges, basketball, invasion games, gymnastics, dance, net and wall games, striking and fielding sports, and athletics. This progression helps them build confidence and skills step-by-step.

Supporting Every Child

Our PE lessons are designed to be welcoming and accessible to all children. Teachers adapt activities to suit different abilities, provide plenty of chances to practise skills in different ways, and focus on teamwork and communication.

We celebrate effort and encourage children to keep trying, helping everyone feel successful.

PE Beyond the Classroom

We want to support our children to be active outside school, so we work hard to offer clubs, visits/ visitors and events that let them try different sports and enjoy being active in new ways. We want to inspire them to keep moving and stay healthy long after they leave primary school. Through sports, children also learn important values like fairness, respect, and honesty.

Get Involved

We welcome parents and the community to join us in supporting our PE programme. Whether it’s encouraging your child to join a club or coming along to sports days, your involvement makes a big difference in helping our children grow confident, resilient, and active.
