We follow the Kapow Primary Languages scheme which carefully plans lessons from Year 3 to Year 6. This means children keep revisiting and building on what they’ve already learned. The lessons are designed to be friendly and accessible for all children.

In our lessons, children work on four main skills:

• Understanding Spanish: Through fun activities, stories, and listening exercises, children get better at understanding spoken and written Spanish. We start with simple words and phrases and build up to more challenging language as they move through the years.

• Speaking and Writing: We encourage children to speak in Spanish, starting with basic greetings in Year 3 and working towards short conversations in Spanish by Year 6.

• Pronunciation: Children hear and practice Spanish sounds.

• Learning Strategies: Children learn useful tips for remembering new words, understanding grammar, and making their own sentences. 

You can support your child’s Spanish journey by:

• Asking them about new words and phrases they’ve learned.
• Watching pronunciation videos together.
• Exploring Spanish culture with books, or music.
• Encouraging them to practise simple phrases regularly.
