Curriculum Overview

Welcome to our Curriculum Overview page. We’re proud to serve the local community and are passionate about creating a learning environment where every child feels hopeful, ambitious, and ready to achieve and succeed.

What Drives Our Curriculum: Aspirations, Curiosity, and Experiences

At Rood End Primary, three key ideas shape everything we do:

Aspirations
We want every child to dream big and believe in themselves. Our curriculum helps children build confidence, discover their talents, and set goals for the future. We encourage hard work and resilience, which match our values of being honest and sticking with challenges.

Curiosity
We love sparking curiosity and wonder. Children are encouraged to ask questions, explore new ideas, and think deeply. This helps them develop a love for learning that lasts a lifetime. Our lessons give plenty of chances to investigate, make connections, and build skills for later success.

Experiences
Learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom. We offer lots of exciting experiences like outdoor learning, trips, performances, and chances to take on responsibilities. These help children understand the world better and grow personally, showing our commitment to inclusion and teamwork.

Our Vision and Values at the Heart of Learning

Our curriculum reflects the values that make Rood End Primary special:

  • Respect: We teach children to appreciate all the different backgrounds in our community.
  • Resilience: We support children to keep going even when things get tough, especially as many start school with extra challenges.
  • Inclusivity: Every child gets the support they need to learn and grow, including those who speak English as an additional language or have additional needs.
  • Collaboration: We work closely together—children, staff, and families—to help everyone thrive.
  • Honesty: We encourage kindness, good behaviour, and high personal standards.

We celebrate what makes each child unique and provide a caring space where they can feel safe and confident

What We Teach and How We Teach It

Our curriculum covers all the National Curriculum subjects and is designed to meet the needs and interests of every child. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Clear steps that help children build on what they know and reach for new challenges.
  • Learning that connects to real life and helps children understand why it matters.
  • High expectations so every child can shine in their own way.
  • Skilled and caring teachers who know each child well.
  • Active learning where children know what they have achieved and what to aim for next.
  • A welcoming approach that makes sure all children can take part fully.

Helping Children Grow Both Academically and Personally

We focus on making sure children improve their skills and enjoy learning. From strong phonics teaching to plenty of chances for reading, writing, and maths practice, we work hard to support every child’s progress.

We also offer lots of extra after school activities like sports, cooking, computing, Punjabi class, life skills and music to enrich their school life.

Special events like World Book Day bring learning to life and make school fun.

Working Together with Families and the Community

We know that parents and the community are key to a child’s success. We keep you updated with n class dojo, messages and letters, invite you to school events, and are always happy to talk about how we support your child’s learning.

At Rood End Primary, our curriculum is about more than just subjects. It’s a journey full of hope, ambition, and opportunities for every child.

Guided by our values, we aim to give children the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need to flourish now and in the future.

Together, we aim to build a warm and inspiring school community where every child can do their best.
