Week Two (week beginning 11/01/2021)

Hello Year 4! I hope that you have had a relaxing weekend and you’ve been practising your spellings from last week.

Don’t forget to complete your daily I Am Learning tasks and make sure you’re practising times tables on TTRockstars after you’ve completed the Oak Academy lessons. Also, make time to log in to Reading Eggs to complete the lessons on there.

You can also take part in music with Mr Shepherd here.

All the teachers in Year 4 will be checking their I Am Learning inbox daily, so message us if you need any help. We’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

Daily Lessons

Monday 11th January

Continue watching The BFG, recap word classes and sequence and retell the main events.

Learn that multiplication can be done in any order.

Start to learn about ‘Sound’ in Science.

Tuesday 12th January

In this lesson, we will introduce new vocabulary, identify word pairs and synonyms and apply the vocabulary in sentences.

This lesson will relate arrays and bar models as ways of visualising multiplication questions and solving calculations.

In this lesson, we are going to be learning about where the Earth’s six major biomes are located and how their position on the Earth impacts their climates. We conclude by considering the huge variation that exists within continents.

Wednesday 13th January

In this lesson, we will think about different ways of referring to the characters introduced in the opening scene of The BFG. We will then generate adjectives to describe the appearance and personality of the characters. For this lesson, you will need an exercise book or paper, a pencil and a ruler.

In this lesson we will explore the notion of inverse operations and use our times tables knowledge to answer division questions.

In this lesson, you will explore the roles and responsibilities that you, as a citizen, have in your community. You will then create a video that outlines your role, alongside the main responsibilities you have.

Thursday 14th January

In this lesson, we will practise the rules associated with adding the suffix -ed. We will learn how to practise using the small to large strategy and will test the words previously set to learn.

This lesson will use our knowledge of multiplication and division 'fact families' in order to find the missing number in a range of questions.

In this lesson, learners will explore devices and apps that record audio and video. Learners will have the opportunity to investigate the pros and cons of using audio devices such as dictation machines or mobile sound recorders versus fully integrated AV (audiovisual) devices.

Friday 15th January

In this lesson, we will analyse the opening scene of The BFG and generate vocabulary to describe the setting, what we can hear and what we can see. We will then think about how we feel when we watch the opening and how we can reflect this in our writing. For this lesson, you will need an exercise book or paper and a pencil.

This lesson will apply known multiplication facts to a wider range of questions.
